'S.W.A.T.' is up with Elliot?
S.W.A.T.Elliot's latest is the score for director Clark Johnson's S.W.A.T., from Columbia Pictures. S.W.A.T. stars Sam Jackson and Colin Farell as members of the titular Los Angeles elite cop squad who fight off mercenaries, thugs and other assorted baddies attempting to spring a drug kingpin and collect his $100 million dollar reward. The score album is due in stores on August 12th from Varese Sarabande.

'Frida' wins Elliot his first Academy Award
Congratulations to Elliot, who won an Academy Award for his original score for Frida. Elliot's acceptance speech: "Wow. To be around such remarkable women, Julie Taymor, Salma Hayek, Sarah Green, Margy Perenchio. Thank you Miramax. But what I really want to say, and I'll do it quickly, is I want to dedicate this award to the bridges that we try to build, to the people of Mexico, to the artistic tradition and legacy of personal and political art. Oscar statuette 'Frida' earns 2 Academy Award nominations
Elliot Goldenthal's work for Frida earned him his third and fourth Academy Award nominations. One for his original score and one for the original song "Burn It Blue", co-written with Frida director, Julie Taymor. The awards are presented by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, and will be handed out on March 23rd, 2003. Elliot's previous nominations were for Interview With The Vampire (1994) and Michael Collins (1996).

Elliot with award 'Frida' score wins Golden Globe
Elliot's score for Frida won a Golden Globe for "Best Original Score - Motion Picture" at the 60th annual Golden Globe Awards. "Burn It Blue" earned a nomination for "Best Original Song". The Golden Globes are chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press. Elliot has also been nominated for two Golden Globes previously, for Interview With The Vampire, and Michael Collins.

Elliot scores Neil Jordan's 'The Good Thief'
Director Neil Jordan and Elliot Goldenthal will collaborate on their fifth film, The Good Thief, starring Nick Nolte and Tcheky Karyo. U2's Bono covers Frank Sinatra's "That's Life" for the film, and the label U2 is signed with, Island Records, released the "original soundtrack and music from the film" on March 3rd in Europe. No North American date has been announced. The Good Thief opens in select cities April 2nd.
